Fun, exciting and new date ideas!

I have a new goal that I'm excited to share with all of you. I am going to have a date with my husband at LEAST once a week- and we're going to have them after my son goes to bed- so we don't have to get a babysitter. I know many of you are experienced in this- but these aren't just going to be a watch a movie pop some popcorn type dates. These are going to be unique, fun and usually things that won't cost money and take very little time to prepare. My husband loves fun things, but we don't have the budget right now to do many of them (golfing, bowling, amusement parks, symphony concerts, etc.). I know there are so many fun things we can do during the summer that are free- such as free concerts in the park, and other such things, but I wanted to also share some things we do while at home, so everyone can participate. But here's the catch, I'm only going to post them AFTER we do them, so I won't just give you some good ideas, I'll let you know what we have done and if it worked or not.

Last night, we tried out one of my ideas. It was at home olympics! I was the blue team so I dressed in blue, and Eric was the red team so he dressed in red. I then set up our backyard as if we were participating in a decathalon. Here were our events:

Laundry basket hurdles (I also used food storage buckets.)

400 M sprint around the house

Broomstick Javelin toss

Marathon run- two times around our neighborhood (it was just over 1 mile)

Hammer toss (we actually threw buckets, I was worried about the hammer going in a wrong direction and taking out something from our house like a window)

Paper Plate discus throw

Fencing with old tennis rackets (we didn't end up doing this one because we didn't have old tennis rackets and we didn't want to ruin our real ones, but Eric would have won this event anyway- he took a fencing class last year- and is very good at it.)

It was SOOO much fun! We had a stopwatch and would time each other on many of the running events, which I mainly won- and then we would put markers down and do best of 3 or 5 for the throwing ones. Eric did win the most gold medals in the end- but we were neck and neck for the majority of the evening. I'm excited for the dates coming up, I have some great ideas- now if only someone had a croquet set we could borrow- I have a great idea- but I can't tell you about it until I do it!

Let me know some fun at home date ideas you have had- and I'll post them here! This might become a regular Thursday post right before you plan your dates for Friday. Frugal but super fun and unique dates- that is what I'm all about!
