Awesome Albertsons trip!

Albertsons is having an amazing sale going on right now! When you buy $25 of participating General Mills products you get a $10 catalina back- pretty much a coupon for $10 you can spend on whatever you want to later on. You have to check it out- with free salad dressing and 30 cent pasta sauce- everyone is a winner! I also loved it because I was able to get some awesome road snacks- like Gogurt and Chex Mix trail mix for super cheap- which will serve us well on the California trip we're taking in two weeks. And I have been craving gogurt for weeks now- but they have always been out when I try to get it- so I am doubley stoked I was finally able to grab some!

A quick reminder as you figure out your shopping lists- maybe there is something on the list that your family wouldn't use that you would get for free or a quarter or less with one of your coupons. Consider getting it anyway and donating it to the food bank- they are ALWAYS appreciative of anything you're willing to give. And of course you can donate things that your family regularly eats too- if you have to start giving somewhere because you have to feed your family, I usually recommend trying that first- and then people get hooked!

Are you guys ready, here's what I got this trip:

  • 6 boxes of Gogurt
  • 3 bags of Chex Mix
  • 4 boxes of Cheerios
  • 3 jars of Bertolli Pasta Sauce
  • 3 jars Ragu Pasta Sauce
  • 3 bags of Bertolli Premium Pasta Sauce
  • 3 boxes of Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad
  • 3 cartons of Breyers ice cream (my little boy's birthday is next week)
  • 6 bottles of Wishbone salad dressing
  • 1 jar of Skippy PB
  • 3 boxes of I can't believe it's not butter baking quarters
  • 1 bottle of I can't believe it's not butter spray
  • 1 Cole Slaw salad kit
  • 2 Garden salad bags
Retails? $150.36
I spent out of pocket? $32.19
Percentage savings? 79%

And I have a $10 catalina to spend at Albertsons on whatever I want in the next two weeks.

I feel great about that! I also got some cheese and free granola bars with my double coupons earlier this week. However my husband wanted me to buy a meat tenderizer for a dinner he cooked two days ago- and that was $4 of my budget! I know $4 doesn't seem like a lot- but I'm now at $46.87 for the week- and I forgot to get milk this morning. That means I have $3.13 left to buy two gallons of milk. $4 more dollars in my budget would have been great. Oh well. We'll make it I'm sure. Happy splurge buy for my husband- and like he said now we'll have it for life. :) (I'm holding off on using the $10 until at least next week. It's good to have a few not spending money days in the week, and next week I'm going to try to get my budget lower- since I want a little more money to be available for our Cali trip.)

I also spent $6.47 at the Buy Low this morning. They have some awesome deals going on- especially their Wednesday produce deals as always. I don't have time to post them, but you can look here at the PYP forum for a quick list.

  1. Hey Brooke, here's a tip for ya...this may sound gross to some of you, but it's not. My hubby started doing this when he was single in college to make his milk stretch further and we've carried it on now for six years of marriage: Buy 2% milk (or 1% milk if you like skim) and dump a little less than half of it into a pitcher. Then, fill the rest of the original gallon container up with water to the top. With the pitcher you do the same, but not quite to the top, because your milk will turn out too watery. I like to fill it so it's about 3/4 full. 1% milk tastes like skim and 2% tastes like 1% using this method. Use the pitcher of milk first and then use your gallon after. Only open one gallon at a time because once you open a gallon it starts spoiling quicker. After your pitcher and your gallon are gone, you do the same with the next gallon. For our family of five, we buy four to five gallons every two weeks and we do this to every single one as we come to it. It stretches it out and saves us money because we love milk! You make have to experiment with the amounts of water you put in to reach your happy medium, but this really is great for saving milk!
