Food Co-Op

Thanks to my friend Porsche who pointed out this great fresh meat and produce find! This is especially exciting for those of you NOT in the Provo area that don't have a Buy Low Market near you.

The Community Food Co-op of Utah is the opportunity to buy quality, healthy food for up to 50% off retail. Each month, we select about 15 items that you’re most likely to buy at the grocery store -- mostly fresh fruit, vegetables, staple items and frozen meat. Then through collective purchasing, we order mass quantities of these items at very low prices. Our food will come from the same wholesalers that supply your local grocery store, so you can expect the same quality. The food will NEVER be donated, out-dated, or damaged. It also supports local farmers, which is great too!

My friend paid $26 for April and got: 1 4-pound roasting chicken, 2 salisbury steaks, 1 pound pork cubes, 1 pound ground beef, 1 5-pound bag of red potatoes, 5 oranges, 1 head of broccoli, 3 cucumbers, 1 head red lettuce, 7 bananas, 4 tomatoes, 1 pound of strawberries, one pound of rice, and Stone Ground's Artisan Wheat Loaf. She also added some nuts to her order for $12 extra.

They also have great volunteer opportunities you can see here, this would be a great way to give back to the community. Maybe you could do a family service project with them one night! They encourage you to donate 2 hours of time each month you place a food order.

Good luck, let me know how it goes for you!
