Magic Jack Review

MagicJack

My husband just received a pay cut at work as I'm sure many of you have also experienced. Considering we went from two salaries to one last May, and my husband should have got a raise last September and of course didn't because the economy was tanking, our income to cover expenses has already been meager. So with the recent % cut at his company we have been a little stressed as to where this extra money would come from because we really are on a tight budget. (At least gas and food prices have come down a lot!) Hence one way I am able to get great deals. It's amazing what you can do when truly motivated. :)

Anyway- we have been forced once again to look for ways to cut our expenses and wondered how we could cut our phone bill down. Our home phone is $25 a month after taxes or $300 a year. That's a lot of money! We shopped around and found this little thing called a magic Jack that we were interested in trying out.

How it works:

It is actually very simple. You plug the magic Jack USB port into your computer and then your telephone jack into the other end. It uses the internet to place and receive calls. You download the software when you first plug it in and it assigns you a phone number, but you choose the area code. After that it's ready to go! It gives you free local AND long distance calling, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding, voicemail, and probably other things we haven't found yet.

Oh, and here's the best part! It costs $40 for the intial set up and service for a year, but only $20 A YEAR after that!

My husband I were a little skeptical at first, it seemed WAY too good to be true. (Less than what we were paying a month for an entire year?!!?) But they were offering a free trial month and if it didn't work we could send it back and get all our money back with no harm done.

We have had it for about two weeks now and absolutely LOVE it! The sound quality is excellent and since we have never had caller ID or call waiting on our home phone before because we haven't wanted to pay for it, it's really fun to have now. I love the FREE long distance to US and Canada feature as well. Not that I know anyone in Canada but just to know I could call them if I wanted to...
It also means if we move anywhere this is our new home number, so people back home could still call us locally, and we wouldn't have to change our number.

I SERIOUSLY recommend EVERYONE to at least try it out! It's amazing. Here's the best part, the free monthly trial is still going on! So you can try it out for a month and if you cancel before that they won't even charge you anything. Click on either Magic Jack picture at the top or the bottom to take you to the site. (And if you have ad blocks up, you need to disable them momentarily to be able to click on the pictures.)

My friend Anna also did a Magic Jack review awhile ago, you can check it out at her blog here. (Her blog is really fun too, look around while you happen to be over there.)

  1. Hey I made it in a post! Hooray. Hey Brookie, could you do a post on when stores get their deliveries? For example I only go to Walgreens about once a month, but I'd like to make that trip on the right day/time of day so that I can hopefully get there before they are out of stock on all the good stuff.

p.s. if you haven't already used your mentos gum coupons (they kept being out of them everywhere I went), Walmart's price is only $1.28 so after the coupon $0.28, winner.

And so sorry to hear about Eric's paycut--but if anyone can stretch their budget it's you. And the magic jack is amazing isn't it?
