Albertsons and Target deals!

Yesterday I found out late in the game about Albertsons offering double coupons in the Des News and SL Trib daily paper. (Page C7 of the Des News) Thanks Joy! I had barely enough time to cut my coupons, make my list and get to the stores before I needed to pick up my husband at work, so sorry I didn't let you know about it earlier. You can still take advantage of the deal if your neighbor has a daily paper they would be willing to let you cut out the doubles. I was SOO excited though! And I got some amazing deals! If you have signed up for the PYP Albertsons mailer- they sent out two double coupons you can use this week only, and you could use those for some of these deals too if you wanted. Here is a picture and post of what I did, I was so excited!

I bought two newspapers for .50 each, and saved $16 in the process. $1 investment for $15 return, I think that's pretty good! You can see what coupons I used and the deal matchups here.

I spent $11.62 (Including the $1 for the 2 newspapers)
But I would have spent $68.08- that's a savings of 83%! AWESOME!

I got some much needed toilet paper, yogurt and my husband would say much needed oreos! Oreos are his favorite treat. I got them for $1 a package after the $1/2 doubled coupon, and they were on sale for $2 a package. There are some Taquitos I also got for my husband for lunches that I put in his work freezer when I picked him up so they aren't pictured here.

I did use a $10 catalina I got last week at Albertsons, but a $5 and $3 catalina printed out for me this time, so it's like I spent $3.62 because I have $8 to use at Albertsons anytime in the next two weeks! Score!

And Target:

All of this retails for $28.44
I spent $4.48 only using Target and manufacturer coupons. Plus I got a $5 gift card for my next Target purchase- so it's like Target paid me $.52 to shop there!

I used all the deal matchup ideas from my post here.

Pretty much free apples, free Purel, Free soy candles, free Dry Idea deodorant, free Easy Mac and .50 squeezable healthy Mayo. Perfect for camping- no knives!

Email me what you guys have gotten on a great deal and I'll post it up here! I think this might be a new part of my blog, posting the proof that using coupons works everyday, and is definitely worth anyone's time!

Restaurant.com 80% off ends today!

Just a reminder for those of you that haven't taken advantage of the 80% off code LUCKY at Restaurant.com- today is the last day! Which also means if you do buy a dinner of the month club pass, tomorrow the restaurants reset- so you can have your choice of which certificates you want! I'll remind you about this again tomorrow morning. Read more about how that works here. If you have any questions, please email me as well- I have talked to several people about how it works, and I want to make sure you know how to make the most of this code! I have eaten at SO many amazing restaurants purchasing over $40 worth of food, but in essence paying $15, including the tip, in the end. I love it! Let me know where you guys go with it!

Unclaimed Property

I have seen this in newspapers and other places that there is so much unclaimed property in the world and all you have to do is search a free database to find if your state is holding some of your unclaimed money.

Check out the site here.

I didn't find any for me, but I did find some for my dad and my mother-in-law. It's fun to check. Let me know if you find anything! (Dad, let me know how much $$$ I hooked you up with!)

Free Bread Bowl Pasta at Dominos!

http://images.postdirect.com/master/10/1030875/main_offer.jpg

I'm loving all this free food these days! Tomorrow is another lunchtime free food opportunity for you at Dominos! Check here to see if your store is participating.

Just so you know the Springville, UT dominos is not participating, but the Provo Dominos on Bulldog is! They said all you need to do is enter the store during those hours ask for the breadbowl pasta and take it with you. Easy breezy!

Grocery Smarts Passport!

I have been checking to see if my new grocery smarts passport is up and running, and just found out that it is! That means you can go to grocerysmarts, type in my passport: g84cbt, and choose which store's deals you want to look at for the week.

It looks like Albertsons is having some awesome yogurt deals and free tortillas and more this week, so check it out tomorrow, or look at PYP's Utah screaming grocery deals by state Albertsons preview.

Let me know if you want to host a free grocerysmarts class. I still have 3 or 4 I can set up with you getting a file box and hanging file folders as the host/hostess. The classes I have been able to teach so far have been great, and I'm so excited to teach more!

Food Co-Op

Thanks to my friend Porsche who pointed out this great fresh meat and produce find! This is especially exciting for those of you NOT in the Provo area that don't have a Buy Low Market near you.

The Community Food Co-op of Utah is the opportunity to buy quality, healthy food for up to 50% off retail. Each month, we select about 15 items that you’re most likely to buy at the grocery store -- mostly fresh fruit, vegetables, staple items and frozen meat. Then through collective purchasing, we order mass quantities of these items at very low prices. Our food will come from the same wholesalers that supply your local grocery store, so you can expect the same quality. The food will NEVER be donated, out-dated, or damaged. It also supports local farmers, which is great too!

My friend paid $26 for April and got: 1 4-pound roasting chicken, 2 salisbury steaks, 1 pound pork cubes, 1 pound ground beef, 1 5-pound bag of red potatoes, 5 oranges, 1 head of broccoli, 3 cucumbers, 1 head red lettuce, 7 bananas, 4 tomatoes, 1 pound of strawberries, one pound of rice, and Stone Ground's Artisan Wheat Loaf. She also added some nuts to her order for $12 extra.

Click here to find the location nearest you.

They also have great volunteer opportunities you can see here, this would be a great way to give back to the community. Maybe you could do a family service project with them one night! They encourage you to donate 2 hours of time each month you place a food order.

Good luck, let me know how it goes for you!

I saw this on A Thrifty Mom's blog and thought it was a great idea! In the Smart Source insert from yesterday there is a coupon for a free 16 oz bag of Purina Kitten Chow. If you're like me and don't have any pets, then you likely pass on the pet coupons. Instead, I encourage you to get your free bag of kitten food, pay the small price for sales tax, and donate the food to your local animal shelter. I love donating things like this!

You can find a list of Utah shelters here.

Free Crazy Bread after survey!

You can get free Crazy Bread after taking this survey about credit unions. (It might only work for Utah and Colorado residents, but check to see if you're outside of those areas anyway!) It says it takes 15 minutes to complete, but I was able to complete it in 5. Try it yourself, and score some free crazy bread today!

Thanks PYP!

Pinecone research banner is open!

I have talked about surveys before and how to know which survey company is legit, which ones pay the best and are most worth your time. You can read my previous post here about how to get started if you're interested and general things I have learned regarding survey companies.

Pinecone Research is only open for new registration some of the time. To find a link open go here and the site will tell you if it's open for registration right now. As of right now it is open, but that can change very quickly. If you're interested sign up! Pinecone research is definitely my favorite of all the survey sites.

Home Depot free workshop!

Home Depot Do It Herself Workshop

This is definitely what I need. For those of you that know me, outside yard maintenance is definitely not my forte. However, maybe I just need some good solid class about yard work to jump start me on my way to make this a strength. I've heard they sometimes offer discounts or coupons at their classes too. You can't beat free! Sign up here if you're interested.

Walgreens policy discussion

I just got off the phone with someone at the Walgreens corporate office. Just to give you a background of what is going on, yesterday I tried to buy the glade candle that was on sale for $5.99 and use the $4 off printable coupon and the $2 off Easy Saver store coupon. They wouldn't let me because the candle was more than the two coupons together, by one penny, and they said they couldn't price adjust the coupon. Well this has happened before, and this particular store has some creative couponing practices sometimes, so I kindly asked if I could speak to a manager, and was told the same thing that his boss told them they couldn't do that anymore, it was a new policy. I said that's fine- obviously you can't do anything about it and I would call the corporate office to make sure the policy was in fact changed or just an interpretation by that particular store. (I actually called regarding the exact same price adjusting issue at that store one month before, and corporate told me that they did in fact price adjust coupons to match the value of the item, and they would retrain the store. So I thought the manager was enforcing his own coupon practices again.)

So as I talked to Walgreens again today, they said they were in the process of changing their policy- and they would no longer price adjust coupons. If your store allows you to do this right now, lucky you- but it will be changing in the coming days.

I don't quite understand why they would do this, as the store gets reimbursed the full value of the coupon, and so they make more money by accepting price adjusted coupons. For example if an item costs $1, but you have a $2 coupon, they price adjust the coupon down to $1, but the store gets reimbursed by the manufacturer the full $2 and .08 extra to process it. So if you would have paid for that item with cash they would get $1. But since you paid with that coupon they get $2.08- it seems like a no brainer business practice.

I also am having a hard time with Walgreens telling the managers about the coupon price adjusting change, but not the customer. They said they don't have an official policy yet, so they haven't come out with a statement, but it doesn't seem like a good customer oriented business practice to change something so drastically and have your customers find out it about blindly. Walgreens is a good to great comapny, and they do have some great business practices, but I hope to understand these issues more and why the company would make these choices. I'm still going to shop at Walgreens, but it is unfortunate they will lose some of my business now that they won't price adjust coupons.

Grocery Smarts Instructor!

I am so excited! I am now a real life grocery smarts instructor! That means I can come to your house and teach you and your friends or family all about grocery smarts and help you become pro sale and coupon shoppers. I am pretty stoked! I absolutely love to teach, and to teach about one of my top three greatest passions, deal finding, I couldn't be happier. (Cue Wicked soundtrack "I Couldn't Be Happier or now Thank Goodness" by Glinda the Good Witch)

Anywho- here's the dealio. I am so excited to be teaching classes, and I'm excited to teach to my readers of this blog! The first 10 people to set up a class and get 5 or more people at the class will get a free file box and hanging file folders. That means you can get organized for free while helping yourself and others learn more about how to build your food storage for less than you're spending at the grocery store right now.

Email me at adealstealingmom@gmail.com if you're interested or if you know someone else who is interested. Soon I will have a grocerysmarts passport that will have my phone number that you can reach me on as well.

Free Utah Park entrance!

If you don't have a library card, now is a GREAT time to get one! You can get into over 40 Utah state parks for FREE! Here is an excerpt from this article on SL Tribune:

"Utah State Parks is launching the Check It Out! program, which allows library-card holders to check out a state park pass at 49 libraries or bookmobiles across the state. Participating libraries will be offering the passes by May 1, if not sooner.

The park pass provides day-use entry for up to eight people in the same vehicle to 42 parks, ranging from the red-rock of Snow Canyon near St. George to Bear Lake on the Utah/Idaho border. Normal day-use fees range from $2 to $10.

People using county libraries will be able to check out passes at the reference desk each Tuesday on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no waiting list for the passes, which must be returned the following Monday.

Utah's state parks remain affordable destinations in these lean economic times," said Utah State Parks Director Mary Tullius. "And you can't put a price on days spent exploring trails and nights around a campfire with family and friends."

Thanks Utah Deal Diva! I know where I'm spending one of my summer vacations!

JJ Cole Spring Warehouse sale

And while you're in Logan check out the Downeast Outfitters clothing warehouse. It is AMAZING! They have downeast shirts for $3 or 2 for $5, many of them overstock for other stores, so nothing is wrong with them, and other clothes with slight defects they send there to sell at a huge discount. When I was in Logan in October, I absolutely LOVED it, and I can't wait to go back!

Buy Low quick discussion

buylow.jpg

Just for a heads up on those of you new to joining my blog and haven't a clue as to where or what the Buy Low Market is. It is grocery store in Provo UT that just opened a few months ago. It originated from California, and has INCREDIBLE produce prices. They also have extra special produce deals on Wednesday, and special meat deals on Friday.

It's located at 2250 North University Parkway- where the new Reams used to be. There's a Shopko by it and Albertsons is just across the street. I seriously LOVE it, and don't know how we would get healthy fresh produce without it on our budget.

As for the Caribbean Haystacks with the cilantro- we had these at a neighbors house on Sunday and they were to die for! I think Hawaiian Haystacks are good enough, but these went on my fantastic dinners radar. Now if we could just get coconut milk on a good sale! (The cheapest I have found them are at the Chinese store by my house, but even then they were .85 a can- yikes!)

Anyway- I don't remember EXACTLY the recipe, but it was pretty simple and I'm sure you could add or delete any of the items and it would still be delicious.

Cook rice, and chicken, and put that and kidney beans in layers in a baking dish, and heat all together.

In a separate bowl mix chopped cilantro, chopped tomatoes and any kinds of chopped peppers you want, and mix with some oil. (kind of like a homemade salsa)

Heat Coconut milk mixed with (and this is where my recollection gets a little hazy) pineapple juice I think. (I'll double check this and update it once I find out- the neighbors aren't home right now to check.) Just heat through, don't boil it.

Then as typical Hawaiian haystack fashion put it all together on your plate, and pour the coconut milk mixture on top. They also added the crunchy chinese noodles that were delicious! And you have heaven on earth!
